Nuffield Project Data Analysis and Presentation

This 20-credit module is only available to recipients of the Nuffield Farming Scholarship. The module runs for 12 weeks and comprises both taught elements and self-directed study. It is designed to provide academic support to the Nuffield Scholar after the completion of their study tour, specifically the treatment of the data gathered. It also provides a route to postgraduate qualifications. Through a series of recorded lectures, students will gain an appreciation of how to analyse their data sets, both qualitative and quantitative results, and also how the best interpret the resulting data analysis.
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
- Understand and apply the principles of quantitative and qualitative data collection
- Use a range of techniques to characterise both quantitative and qualitative data sets, including descriptive statistics, data transformations, normality checks, coding, and categorisation
- Conduct analyses using a range of techniques to derive results/insights from both quantitative and qualitative data sets.
- Present quantitative and qualitative data both in text and using a range of tables and figures
- Utilise scientific literature to interpret and discuss research finding
